ABP introduces Maritime Nation to Parliament

ABP has showcased the Maritime Nation campaign in Parliament at a sitting of the All-Party Parliamentary Maritime and Ports Group session. Maritime Nation aims to raise awareness of the vital contribution of the UK marine and maritime sector.

The campaign is supported by a number of organisations, including ABP and the Port of Dover, and supports the Department for International Trade’s Exporting is GREAT campaign. ABP’s Head of Public Affairs and Corporate Communications David Leighton spoke to industry leaders and parliamentarians - including Shipping Minister the Rt Hon John Hayes CBE MP - of the importance of the maritime sector to the UK.

Mr Leighton said: “Particularly in a post-Brexit world, the importance of maritime is perhaps more profound than even we might appreciate.

“Maritime, in many ways, embodies the values that we will need to embrace if we are to forge a prosperous future; outward looking and enterprising.”

Mr Leighton also offered a preview of upcoming Maritime Nation events and initiatives, including the campaign’s first major reception at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Tuesday 1 November.

“The Maritime Nation reception will be a fantastic showcase for the sector and it will highlight the critical role that ports and maritime play in exports; and the role that they can play to boosting our exports.”

The reception will also serve to celebrate the anniversary of the Exporting is GREAT campaign which was launched a year ago. Maritime Nation is not limited to being supported by those who are part of the ports and the maritime sector, but also those who rely on the sector.
